The Phoenix Suns were all about being new and improved for the 1992-’93 season. The team got a new arena, America West Arena, a new coach, Paul Westphal, and a new superstar player, the round mound of rebound Charles Barkley. In their first year in the new stadium the Suns finished with a franchise best regular season record of 62-20 and the number one seed in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association Playoffs. The team used their home court advantage to get to the NBA Finals. The Suns played three of their five games at America West Arena and unfortunately lost all three games including the game clinching game five and had to watch Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls celebrate on their home floor. Phoenix has been to the playoffs in 10 of their last 12 seasons and much of it has to do with the rowdy crowds that come out and support the Suns.

The Suns aren’t the only tenants that call America West Arena their home. The Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL, the Arizona Rattlers of the AFL, and the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA play all of their home games in the arena. America West Arena also is the backdrop for a number of big ticket concerts ranging in everything from Phil Collins to Incubus.
