The Charlotte Bobcats will begin their franchise in the home of Charlotte’s former franchise, Charlotte Coliseum or “The Hive” as it used to be called when the Hornets were the chief tenants. The Hornets sold out over 250 straight games while playing there and the city of Charlotte provided an atmosphere that went unmatched throughout the rest of the National Basketball Association. The area is rich with basketball tradition with Duke and North Carolina universities just a stones throw away from Charlotte. Most fans bring that colligate feel to the stadium that makes games in the Coliseum insane and a great deal of fun to attend.
Charlotte Coliseum is also home to the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA. The stadium also hosts many events like concerts and conventions and things of that nature. Some of the big name concerts that played in Charlotte Coliseum were Van Halen, Usher, and Janet Jackson just to name a few.
The city of Charlotte is currently building a new stadium that will be ready for the Sting and the Bobcats in the fall of 2005. This state of the art facility will be able to do all the same things that Charlotte Coliseum can do like host concerts, basketball games, conventions, and circuses inside of it.
